At the Dance Lab we teach Tap dance combinations which build strength in the legs and feet in addition to increasing flexibility in the hips, knees and ankles. Tap dance is a type of dance characterised by using the sounds of metal taps affixed to the heel and toe of shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion, coupled with both characteristic and interpretative body movements.
And the greatest thing about it is that you can learn it surprisingly quickly. Even by the end of a couple of well-taught classes, at The Dance Lab you will be able to dance a short, simple routine that will sound ‘right’. Because, that’s the thing with Tap; it’s all about the noise! From our research, the most conducive age to begin serious training is around age 3 years of age..Tap dance originated in the United States in the early 19th century at the crossroads of African and Irish American dance forms.
